What are Dermal Fillers?

After weight loss or with age, Miami, FL men and women may notice facial volume loss and wrinkles beginning to form on their face. In such instances, some people choose to receive dermal fillers to replenish lost facial volume. Fillers are a great minimally invasive alternative for our patients who want to smooth fine lines, sagging skin, and/or wrinkles. They can also be added to other cosmetic procedures to provide results similar to a traditional facelift without surgery, the risk of scarring, or the downtime. To learn if dermal fillers are right for you, we encourage you to visit Brickell Cosmetic Center where dermatologist Dr. Lauren Dozier can help you create a youthful appearance.

What Can I Expect from My Dermal Fillers?

Before your dermal filler injections, you'll discuss your cosmetic goals with Dr. Dozier, and together, determine what product will best deliver them. Injectable fillers are done as an in-office procedure in a very short amount of time. At the time of your procedure, we will use a topical numbing cream as an anesthetic to make the injections as comfortable as possible. Slowly and meticulously, the filler will be injected into your skin through a very fine needle. After your procedure, you can get right back to everyday life. You will likely experience swelling and bruising immediately after, but these symptoms will dissipate within a couple of days. Results can last from a few months to a year, depending on the type of filler used and the placement of the injection. Touch-ups may be needed periodically to optimize results. The fillers we offer are:

  • Restylane®: This is used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and folds in the mid-face.
  • JUVÉDERM®: JUVÉDERM is typically used to plump up the lips and address wrinkles and folds that occur around the nose and mouth.
  • RADIESSE®: RADIESSE is the only FDA-approved filler that causes calcium-microspheres to stimulate collagen growth and smooth lines and wrinkles for up to one year.
  • Sculptra®: Sculptra helps reduce lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen growth.

Dermal Filler FAQ

How do I know which injectable filler is right for me?
The type of dermal filler used on you will depend on which area(s) is being treated as well as your desired outcome. Depending on whether you want to diminish wrinkles or achieve fuller, plumper lips, your injector will talk with you about your concerns prior to recommending the best filler for optimal results. Since there are so many different types of fillers available, it may be difficult to choose which is ideal for your needs, but we work hard to make sure you get a natural-looking, rejuvenated look.

How long will the results last?
How long your results last will be dependent on the type of filler used and the area(s) treated. In some people, results may be visible for a year, while some patients might want another treatment after a couple of months. Follow-up treatments are available at our practice in order to maintain your improvements.

What areas of my face can be treated with dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can improve signs of aging by either adding volume or smoothing static lines. Fillers can be injected into mild to moderate parentheses, marionette, and corner lines around your mouth and nose. They can also add volume to your lips and cheeks.
