What is Microdermabrasion?
When you run your hands over your face, does your complexion feel smooth and soft or rough? If you answered rough, then the surface layer of your skin could be cluttered with dead skin cells that make your complexion dull and uneven. At Brickell Cosmetic Center in Miami, FL, we offer medical spa services, like microdermabrasion, to quickly and effectively remove the surface layer of dead skin cells from your face so your complexion is healthier and brighter. Microdermabrasion treatments are often used to reduce the appearance of blemishes, fine lines, sun damage, scars, and clogged pores. This procedure can be used alone or with a complementary cosmetic treatment, such as a dermal filler or chemical peel, for even better results. At your initial consultation, our providers will create a unique treatment plan to fit your specific skin concerns and goals.

What Can I Expect from Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion treatments are performed at our upscale office following a consultation to determine what procedures will give you the best results. For the treatment, you will relax in a comfortable chair as your skin is cleaned and prepared. The handpiece will be passed over your skin as the tool both exfoliates and sucks up the crystals and dead skin. Combined with LED light therapy, your treatment should last around 30 minutes. While the process feels a little rough, it should not be uncomfortable so you shouldn't need a local anesthetic or numbing cream. As soon as the process is complete, your skin will be carefully cleaned to remove any residual debris before a moisturizer with sunscreen is applied. Following your treatment, you can continue your normal routine, but you should apply sunscreen or another form of sun protection since your skin will have a baby-like sensitivity to it. The LED therapy should help your skin heal faster and alleviate some of the redness and discomfort some experience after this treatment. Your face will feel softer, and your tone will be brighter and more even. To prolong your results, we recommend getting microdermabrasion treatments every 4 – 6 weeks.
Microdermabrasian FAQ
How often should I get microdermabrasion treatments?
To start, you should get anywhere from 5 – 12 microdermabrasion treatments every 2 – 4 weeks to rejuvenate your complexion. After that, you should schedule appointments every 1 – 2 months to maintain the health of your skin. During your initial consultation, our team at Brickell Cosmetic Center will make a treatment plan with recommendations specific to your skin's needs that details when you should schedule appointments for microdermabrasion.
How should I care for my skin after a microdermabrasion treatment?
After your microdermabrasion treatment, you should avoid activity for at least 24 hours to give your skin time to heal. You should also avoid direct exposure to UV rays (tanning beds and natural sunlight) and protect your skin with sunscreen. Our staff may recommend a serum or other skin product to reduce swelling and redness following the procedure.
Can I combine microdermabrasion with other treatments?
Since microdermabrasion is a surface skin treatment, you may consider combining it with other procedures. You may combine microdermabrasion with an injectable wrinkle relaxer or dermal filler or as part of a facial. Please be honest about all your aesthetic worries in your consultation so your technician can create a plan that reaches all your goals.
